Activision Patents System to Suggest Games Based on Stream Viewership
Activision Corporation has filed a patent for a system that would give players game recommendations, modify them and even create new games „on the spot” based on the live broadcasts they watch.
Live broadcasts have become a powerful and important segment of the video game market in recent years. The Activision corporation is well aware of this fact, as it's said to have developed a system that would cleverly combine the viewing of streams with game recommendations, and even modify ongoing gameplay based on viewers' choices.
eXputer noted that the American company has filed its idea at the patent office. The main concept behind the technology is to give gamers personalized suggestions on game selections, matching them appropriately, and even "create new games on the spot" for viewers following a given broadcast.
The patent, named "Systems and methods for dynamically modifying video game content based on non-video gaming content being concurrently experienced by a user," uses extracted data on viewer behavioral patterns during stream selection to, among other things, change the content of a given game in real time.
As the patent's documentation reads, Activision plans to make changes with this method that will allow for both streamers and viewers to become more engaged. The system could, for example, actively modify gameplay as the broadcast continues, to increase the level of immersion. Meanwhile, viewers would be given suggestions to try other games, with different settings.
The idea of recommending games based on broadcasts is quite transparent and easy to imagine. However, the unique possibilities of modifying video games according to the watched streams, as well as the idea of creating "new titles" during them seems a bit "bold," so to speak.
