Acheron in HSR, Mysterious Ranger with Two Faces - Everything We Know So Far

The release of Penacony, the next planet in Honkai Star Rail, is getting closer on the horizon. As the Trailblazers are about to embark to the new world, players become more and more curious about the upcoming lineup of playable characters. One of them is Acheron, also known as Huangquan, who gained attention for her resemblance to another highly popular HoYoverse character.
Acheron as a playable unit in HSR
The following article is based on leaks, which are unofficial information subject to change, and speculation. The content presented may become outdated in the future.
Reputable leakers in the Honaki Star Rail community, such as Hamz, Himo_sino and StepLeaker, have revealed that Acheron or Huangquan will be a 5 star Lightning character following the path of Nihility. Her kit will be based on placing debuffs called Curses on enemies, which increases damage taken, and using follow-up attacks.
Acheron sports a close resemblance to Raiden Mei from Honkai Impact 3rd, however, unofficial sources suggest there might be another unit based on Mei coming out in HSR in the future. Combat asset leaks from c2tr and ayatoloverr have shown Acheron has two “forms” or appearances: one with dark blue hair and white, black and purple outfit, and another with white hair and red details in her outfit. It is so far unknown what causes the switch.
Acheron in HSR – Lore and personality
In the leaks, Acheron is said to originate from the so called Planet Edo, likely to be based on Japan. She is a part of Galaxy Rangers, a group of space vigilantes that was teased in game back on Herta’s Station.
However, that turns out to be a cover up for her real identity as an Emanator of Nihility (according to this post her initial reveal as Emanator of Abundance was a mistake by the leaker) also known “Self-Annihilator”. An Emanator in HSR is an emissary of the Aeon, able to use stronger powers of the given Path than regular Pathstriders.
According to the information from StepLeaker, Acheron is cold, silent and ascetic. She outwardly claims to be a ronin (a master-less samurai, often considered disgraced as a samurai was meant to die with their Lord) and an “imperial maiden” from Edo, seeking vengeance. However, she actually doesn’t remember her past. She is “born of nothingness, wielding a sword that cuts off the path of life.”
The name ‘Acheron’ refers either to one of the rivers in Hades, or the Underworld itself. Likewise, her other alias, Huangquan or Yomi in Japanese is a reference to the land of the dead in Chinese and Japanese cultures. What could this namesake mean for her story? There are many possibilities, but one interpretation is that she might be an undead reanimated by the power of the Nihility Aeon. That is because in Greek mythology, after crossing the rivers of the Underworld, the deceased lost all of their memories.
That is, however, only speculation. Honkai Star Rail players will have to wait until version 2.0, when Acheron is rumoured to release, to find out the truth.
