8 Things You Should Know When Returning to Fortnite in 2023
Over the years, Fortnite has changed in virtually every aspect. Today we present you with the 8 most important changes you should know about when playing Epic Games' production in 2023.
Fortnite has been around for over five years and one thing has to be admitted – during the time, Epic Games' production has strongly changed the balance of power on the video games market. The creators didn't stop in refining the formula, and today, it holds the title of one of the most popular video games of this generation. It's quite possible that in the past you tried your hand at Fortnite, but eventually abandoned this production. If that's the case, you might be interested to know that it's a completely different title now. We're going to present you the most important changes that have taken place in Fortnite in recent years. Perhaps one of them will make you want to go back to the production of Epic Games.
1. Added no-building mode
Although there have been a lot of changes to Fortnite in recent years, the most important one was undoubtedly the permanent addition of the Zero Build mode to the game. As part of it, we get a game mode without building. Structures placed in on-the-fly have been replaced with additional, self-renewing armor, as well as improvements to the character's mobility. This is perfect for players, who didn't enjoy building, and without this mechanic the game has a lot to offer anyway – fights are more dynamic, since you can't quickly build cover anymore.
Our advice!
If you're new to Fortnite, you should start with Zero Build mode.
2. More PvE elements
Chapter 2 introduced a PvE mode where we fight against various opponents in standard battle royale skirmishes. Currently, there are even more of these activities on the map and they very often have an interesting storyline. These elements were added to diversify the gameplay and have been significantly expanded over the years. Bots and opponents provide additional tools to help you win games, such as us resources, weapons or they can even join our team. Defeating them usually shouldn't cost you a headache (as long as other players don't bother us), and the AI-controlled enemies are often featured in seasonal missions. It's also worth knowing that the game has animals that we can kill – in order to obtain healing items – or tame and use as mounts.
3. New map
Of course, if we're talking about changes in Fortnite, we cannot omit such an important element as the map where all the battles take place. At the time of this writing – that is, during Chapter 4 – we once again received a completely new location. This time, the island is around 30% smaller, which makes combat much more dynamic. Additionally, the so-called territories were added, which we can take over in order to get rare items, and can also see enemies and locked chests in the designated area for a limited time.
4. Reality Augmentations
One of the biggest changes introduced in the latest Chapter are the so-called Reality Augments – Upgrades that players can select during gameplay. During each match, we get up to four Augments (there are for draws that offer us two items from the general pool, and each time we must choose one of them). The available augments can improve mobility or offer specific items. This is a solution that's supposed to make every player able to customize the game as they see fit. Importantly, the developers took care to update the aforementioned mechanics – at the time of writing this text, five more Augments have been added to the game and it should be expected that over time, the developers will experiment heavily with this element of the game.
Our advice!
Don't be afraid to experiment with different Augmentations. Perhaps you will discover a new gameplay style that will suit you better by chance.
5. New Unreal Engine 5.1
The latest Chapter is also a huge change in terms of visuals – the entire production was migrated to Unreal Engine 5.1, which makes the game look much better, and gives the developers more opportunities to create new attractions on the map. Everything has been improved – from the textures to water to light reflections.
6. Fortnite Crew
Fortnite was one of the first games that rewarded the efforts of players devoting a lot of time to it in a thoughtful way. The introduction of a pass, which allows you to buy another one for free each time you complete the last one was quite a groundbreaking concept. In theory, the player only had to pay for the pass once to be able to enjoy it in each subsequent season. This, of course, entails spending countless hours in the game in each season, but players seemed to like this form of reward for dedication. A novelty that may surprise returning players is the fact that after some time, the developers from Epic Games introduced a kind of subscription to their production – the Fortnite Crew . This is an offer where players can secure monthly bundles of items, including a Battle Pass unlock, new skins and extra V-Bucks. This is a great solution for players who want to spend a bit more money.
7. It's now faster and more dynamic
With the introduction of the Zero Build mode to the game, the developers decided to add further elements of the character's movement, such as sliding or climbing. In addition, the production currently offers a set of tools that make the gameplay even faster and more dynamic. For example, the Shockwave Hammer allows you to move yourself, your allies, as well as enemies; the Slap Juice adds unlimited stamina for a certain period of time, and some of the Reality Augments provide bonuses after climbing or sprinting. All this makes the Fortnite much more dynamic today than a few years ago.
Our advice!
Use all available weapons and items at least once to familiarize yourself with how each of them works.
8. Collaborations and events
It has been known for a long time that the Fortnite community lives the high-profile collaborations with representatives of the most popular brands and pop-culture works in the world. Everyone was already aware of the huge potential of Epic Games' production in this regard, but I think few could have predicted that it would reach such a level. Currently, Fortnite can boast of cooperation with, among others, the most popular video games, anime, comics and movies, which results in thematic sets of items (e.g. inspired with Geralt of Rivia). Practically everyone can find something for themselves here, regardless of what other pop-culture creations they are fond of. What's more, such cooperation includes not only in-game skins, but also huge events aimed at attracting many players to the screens. We're talking about events preceding the end of seasons or concerts of famous music stars. Each such event can be stunning and is a great escape from normal gameplay.
