Zombi is a first-person action game in which we emerge right in the midst of a zombie invasion that has taken over the capital of the UK. The production is a conversion of ZombiU published in late 2012, which had so far been one of Nintendo WiiU exclusives. Australian studio Straight Right, whose portfolio includes Shift 2: Unleashed for iOS, Mass Effect 3, and Deus Ex: Human Revolution for WiiU, was responsible for porting the game (originally developed by Ubisoft’s internal studio).
Zombi takes place entirely in London, and the game designers decided to recreate many attractions and landmarks of the city in the virtual world. Its inhabitants have been transformed into blood-thirsty zombies and wander the empty streets in search of the few remaining survivors. The player becomes one of those who try to evade danger. Our task is to find hideouts and items allowing us to survive and fend off the undead.
An interesting aspect is the fact that in the event of the death of our character (upon which he or she turns into a zombie), the game does not end definitively. Once we move to the shelter where we store inventory and improve equipment, we start playing as another character and, if we're lucky, we get to the place of our death and recover the backpack with all items or ammunition. It is possible that we’ll come across the blood-thirsty version of our late hero, still wielding a weapon in their hands. Another interesting element is the possibility of leaving messages in the game world for the other players to see. If we are connected to the Internet, we can see them on the walls or sidewalks in the form of graffiti. These messages can be a warning for other players against the dangers lurking around the corner or informing them of a safe haven.
Despite the much higher technical capabilities of modern computers, the PC version of Zombi looks almost exactly the same as the original from 2012. An important drawback of the conversion is also the lack of multiplayer mode, which was one of the greatest assets of ZombieU.
