Zeit 2

Zeit 2 is an old-school shooter, in which you steer a spaceship, which is constantly moving to the right, and fight against thousands of enemies. The whole thing was enriched with a unique gameplay feature that allows for time manipulation.

At first glance, the gameplay resembles classic games released on arcade machines. You get to control a small spacecraft, which keeps flying rightwards, and fight off waves of enemies. Your chances of survival can be increased by collecting power-ups scattered along the way. What sets Zeit 2 apart from other similar titles, is time manipulation. When you press a specific button the game rewinds until you release the button or drain the energy bar. After moving into the past, another ship appears on the screen – there is the spacecraft you are currently controlling and the one from the future. Proper use of this mechanics lets you take an advantage over your opponents in key moments. What is more, in such situations points scored are doubled.

Time travels combined with a variety of weapons open a wide array of tactics. The arsenal includes e.g. a chain attack, which sends a bolt of energy that bounces off enemies, as well as exploding ammo, which tears apart everything on its way. Contrary to most games of the type, in Zeit 2 you do not have a hit bar that would decrease on every hit. Instead, your energy drops each time you let an enemy ship get past you, and increases with every destroyed opponent. This gives the game a unique rhythm and makes you constantly think on whether you should perform a powerful attack or act defensively.

The developers prepared 20 types of enemies, and especially attractive 8 bosses. The game offers 16 chapters, and you can prolong your adventure thanks to special modes in which game rules are modified. The artwork is simple and abstract, but full of impressive visual effects that add charm to the game.
