Zanki Zero: Last Beginning is a survival post-apocalyptic jRPG. The game focuses on real-time battles with monsters and on exploration of ruins in search of supplies needed for survival. The game was developed by Spike Chunsoft, the creators of Danganronpa series and many other games.
Plot
In 2018, Earth was desolated and the humanity has become nearly extinct. Eight clones – the last members of our species – are traveling through ruined islands and abandoned cities. Their cycle of life lasts only 13 days after which a clone dies and is being reborn in a young body. Then he or she once again grows old and dies in order to keep repeating the cycle. Each clone is related to one of the seven deadly sins (the eighth character represents the original sin) and their pasts hide dark secrets. In the unwelcoming, empty world, the protagonists are accompanied only by a mysterious TV. On its screen, a charming sheep explains the basics of survival.
Mechanics
The player can assume the role of each of the eight protagonists. The main task is to explore the ruined cities and dungeons in search of supplies such as food. During the journeys, the players frequently participate in real-time combat. The characters have physiological needs that must be regularly met.
Each of the eight protagonists can survive for up to 13 days. Then, he or she dies and is being brought back to life as a young person. During each circle, the character becomes old. The age affects the statistics and possibilities. What’s more, the type of death might be awarded with a bonus after the respawn.
