Yo-kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits, available on Nintendo 3DS, is the second installment of a jRPG series that is extremely popular in Japan, created with younger players in mind. The first game in the series debuted in 2013 and became a great hit in Japan. This popularity resulted in an animated series, movies and numerous gadgets depicting the main characters. The Yo-kai brand entered the Western markets only in 2015. Yo-kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits was produced by Level-5 studio, which was founded in 1998. Developers have become known thanks to many jRPGs, such as Ni no Kuni, White Knight Chronicles or Rogue Galaxy.
Plot
Yo-kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits continues the story presented in the first game. Players can once again choose between the two main characters - Nathan or Katie. The game starts after the mysterious Yo-kai makes the protagonist completely forget about the events of the original Yo-kai Watch. After the hero hits a special watch that allows them to come into contact with friendly souls, they slowly regain their lost memories and decides to find the responsible for all of this.
Mechanics
The game still takes place in the small town of Springdale, where we can travel freely, looking for Yo-kai hidden in various nooks and crannies. The creators have also introduced new locations outside the town, to which we will get by train. At some point, we will also be able to travel back in time to Springdale and see how it looked more than 50 years before the birth of your character.
Our main objective is to help people and souls we meet - but we are often disturbed by other, less friendly Yo-kai. When we come across one of them, we have to defeat them in a turn-based fight. The reward is the ability to befriend the creature and use their skills later.
We can meet hundreds of Yo-kai, divided into several tribes, differing in available skills and unique weaknesses. The game is available in two versions, just like the Pokemon games. We can choose from Spirits vouchers and Fleshy Souls. They differ in the available Yo-kai, as well as in the small details of the story.
Technical aspects
Yo-kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits offers colorful and vibrant graphics and has a nice soundtrack. It's worth mentioning that our Yo-kai can be tested in fights with friends who own the game, using the multiplayer options via the local wireless network.
