A third-person action game which can be called a jealous girl simulator, developed by an independent designer by the nickname of YandereDev. The title is a term borrowed from Japanese pop culture, meaning a type of personality: such person seems nice and harmless at the first glance but with time shows their alternate, brutal aspect.
Yandere Simulator is a third-person action game for PC that can be described as a jealous girl simulator. The production was developed by a designer by the nickname of YandereDev. He worked for several years in a major company as a developer of console and mobile titles.
At the beginning, it is worth mentioning that “yandere” is a word borrowed from Japanese pop culture, especially manga, and describes a specific personality type. A yandere person is ostensibly nice and harmless but after a while, usually as a result of romantic vicissitudes, shows their alternate aspect: violent and prone to extreme brutality.
Plot
In the game, we assume the role of a seemingly ordinary high school student. The girl is anything but ordinary, though, because she falls in love in a boy and decides not to let any female colleagues near him. To do so, she will resort even to murder.
Mechanics
Yandere Simulator is a third-person stealth game with dating sim elements for PC. Even though it’s an indie title, the complexity of its mechanics’ is quite impressive. The basic way of eliminating the competition is to kill them. The action takes place in open locations at school and its outskirts as well as the protagonist’s home. Since the available levels are roamed by students, teachers, and other people, murders have to be committed with caution and after we have scouted the area, otherwise we might attract attention of bystanders who may call the police. Therefore, first and foremost, we have to try to lure our victims into secluded spaces and then efface all traces like blood, the body, and other proof.
Not always do we have to personally kill others. Sometimes we might use our colleagues to bully the target which then commits suicide. There are even more sophisticated ways than that — we can, for example, frame the victim into one of our previous murders, destroy her reputation, or make her become interested in a different boy.
The last way listed above is actually a completely new game. First, we have to stalk the girl to find out which student interests her the most. Then, we have to get his attention to be able to manipulate him. Later on, we have to make the two meet each other and talk. This is when we start the dialogue in which we tell the boy what he is supposed to talk with the girl about to make her love him. If everything goes according to the plan, the duo will fall in love with one another and thus solve the problem in a non-violent way.
Hiring others to help us with some activities is an interesting feature. Nobody does anything for free, though, so to hire out a guy that will draw potential witnesses away from a given place, we have to take some pictures of girly panties which are the in-game currency.

Yandere Simulator for PC is powered by the popular Unity technology known from such games as Firewatch, SUPERHOT, and Torment: Tides of Numenera.
