Xuan-Yuan Sword: The Gate of Firmament

Xuan Yuan Sword: The Gate of Firmament is the twelfth game in the Xuan-Yuan Sword series, and the sixth installment in the Xuan-Yuan Sword Gaiden subseries. We are talking about an action RPG series, created by the teams at DOMO Studio and Softstar Entertainment.

This brand did not leave the borders of Asia for many years, but over time it began to break through to the West, thanks in part to such productions as Xuan-Yuan Sword VII (2020) Xuan-Yuan Sword: Mists Beyond the Mountains (2023).

Story

Xuan Yuan Sword: The Gate of Firmament takes us to ancient China , or more precisely – to its alternative, fantasy version. The Jade Emperor opened the gates of heaven during the search of his lost daughter, bestowing some people with divine powers. As a result chaos erupted in the realm of mortals. The domain of the gods was thus closed again. Although this way it was possible to prevent the situation from worsening, at the same time humanity was cut off from the help of the gods.

We play as heroes forming a small group led by the young Sikong Yu, who attempt to reopen the passage between the two kingdoms.

Gameplay

In Xuan Yuan Sword: The Gate of Firmament we view the action from a third-person perspective (TPP). The adventure leads us through such locations as bamboo forests, settlements, or snow-capped mountain peaks. While exploring ancient China, we engage in conversations with characters, carry out quests, and also engage in battles with opponents.

The skirmishes are dynamic, and during them we make use of melee weapons and magical powers. On the battlefield, not only the strength of our characters' attacks and their equipment play an important role, but also the formation we choose. Picking the right tactic is essential, especially during battles with bosses.

The authors of the game also allow us to capture defeated demons and tame them to fight alongside us (as part of the so-called Guardian System) and synthesize them, thus gaining improvements for our equipment (using the Urn of Spirit Infusion). In addition to this, we get various upgrades at our disposal, which further increase the combat potential of our team members (Miracle System).
