X Rebirth VR Edition PC

X Rebirth VR Edition for PC is a special edition of a space simulator, which was released in 2013. This new version was developed by a German studio Egosoft, specifically for virtual reality headsets; the game requires such a piece of hardware to work. X Rebirth VR Edition includes the contents from the original X Rebirth, as well as an expansion pack X Rebirth: Home of Light. However, both this add-on and the base game underwent a thorough reconstruction.

Plot

In similarity to the core game, X Rebirth VR Edition is set many years after the events depicted in the previous installments of the series. A powerful supernova caused the destruction of many important civilization centers and changed the balance of powers in the galaxy. The player assumes the role of Ren Otani. Accompanied by Yisha, the protagonist gets involved in a political affair, stumbling on the wrongdoings of one of the factions that control the region.

Mechanics

The player is placed in control over a spaceship and completes assignments requiring them to fight enemies or to transport different goods. Money is also earned through cleaning away thrash from space or simply trading. In case of the latter, the key to success is not only to search for sales and discounts (to buy for cheaper prices and sell with benefit), but also to analyze the station where one will be trading at – gathering information guarantees getting better prices. Interestingly, the player does not have to do everything on their own, as on their path, they can create stations, as well as both military and transport fleets. Obviously, the player needs to provide each new ship with a crew.

X Rebirth VR Edition for PC introduces many changes into the mechanics – those involve how the entire galaxy works and bring improvements to the economic system. Also, the creators decided to implement new missions and to change the interface. Moreover, the developer brought more balance to the experience and adjusted the pace of it to the specifics of VR headsets. As a result, the players cannot import save files from the original X Rebirth into this game.

Technical aspects

X Rebirth VR Edition for PC came out as a stand-alone product utilizing a new graphics engine, which makes a full use of the Vulkan technology. All of this is reflected in the quality of the visuals, as the game is the best-looking installment in the series so far.
