Wraith: The Oblivion - Afterlife Description
Wraith: The Oblivion - Afterlife is a survival horror that was developed for virtual reality technology. The game uses a World of Darkness license (referred to as a world associated with numerous table-top RPGs, including the Wraith: The Oblivion) and allows the player to take on the role of a ghost exploring a certain property. The game was developed and released by the independent studio Fast Travel Games (creators of The Curious Tale of the Stolen Pets and Apex Construct).
Plot
The action of Wraith: The Oblivion - Afterlife takes place in the World of Darkness - a universe full of supernatural phenomena and beings, known from both parts of the RPG cycle Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines and Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Earthblood. The player takes on the role of the wraith, i.e. the soul of a deceased person who remained on Earth due to some unfinished matters (e.g. revenge). Phantoms function in a place known as the Shadowlands, which is a reflection of the reality of the living.
Fast Travel Games game takes us to the property of the Barclay family - a mysterious place where terrible things are hidden even for the dead.
Mechanics
Wraith: The Oblivion - Afterlife is a classic survival horror in which the player's task is to survive and learn the plot thread developed by the creators, which sheds light on the mystery of the property. In this game we observe the action from the first person perspective, and the gameplay consists mainly in exploring the location, hiding from threats (these are Spectres), finding and using different items.
The player also has the opportunity to use several special abilities characteristic for wraiths. We can move objects at a distance and pass through walls. In addition, our hero has sharpened his senses, thanks to which he is better at detecting threats and he can hear distant voices or even whispers.
Game modes
In Wraith: The Oblivion - Afterlife we can only play alone. The core of the game is a feature campaign.
Technical aspects
Wraith: The Oblivion - Afterlife offers decent 3D graphics. This is not a game that sets new standards in the industry, but it looks good for a game created for VR. The graphics is kept in a charming, dark atmosphere, well in tune with the universe and nature of the game in question.
The game of Fast Travel Games studio requires virtual reality goggles to work. The PC version works with Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Valve Index series. The PlayStation 4 release supports PlayStation VR.
