Battleground Europe (in the USA - World War II Online: Blitzkrieg) is another member of the fast-growing MMO family, representing the FPS genre (first person shooters). The name evokes associations with the doctrine of instant war, created by German generals in the 30/40s of the 20th century. Of course, these associations are absolutely correct. Thanks to Beyond Blitzkrieg, we have the opportunity to stand up for one of the sides of the biggest conflict of the last century, the Second World War, i.e. the Axis countries or Allies.

The game is the first part of the series entitled The Virtual Battlefield Series and offers armies, vehicles, weapons and equipment (in total over 80 historical models), which could be seen on the battlefields of Western Europe in the years 1939-1942. The world of Beyond Blitzkrieg consists of more than 36,000 strategic facilities such as buildings, bunkers and bridges and more than 4,000 different types of facilities and equipment located in 450 cities and villages. The game map is over 354,000 square miles.

Players fighting in the "permanent" world of Beyond Blitzkrieg (game servers open 24 hours a day) have a chance to take the role of an infantry soldier or sit at the helm of one of the dozens of accurately reproduced models of vehicles or watercraft, and even aircraft. During the game it is possible to develop our character through career paths, because the developers have implemented a very detailed system modeled on RPG games. 3D graphics of the game is at a decent level, but the used physics model and damage and destruction is quite impressive.
