World Karate Championship is an arcade game created by System 3 Software studio. Originally, the programme was only published in Europe under the name International Karate. After a great commercial success of this production, the then "giant" of the entertainment industry - the company Epyx Inc. - decided to release a prototype in the United States, but under a different title. The operation was a complete success. The World Karate Championship is the first UK game to reach the top of the American Billboard list.
It would seem thatin connection with the decision to release the game on the American market (and a few months after the success of International Karate), the producer will decide to significantly develop the ideas contained in the original. On the contrary, the World Karate Championship is a poorer game than its memorable predecessor. The authors implementedonly two arenas in the program. Competitors can therefore duel in Australia or Egypt.
In the World Karate Championship, the player plays the role of a novice karate, whose task is to defeat the more successful competitors in a series of short, thirty-second duels. During the skirmish we can inflict various blows, consisting of several kicks and fist strokes. Depending on how effective we are on the battlefield, the referee awards us a certain number of points. All the fun comes down to having a better result than the opponent at the end of the fight. You can also finish the duel before time, getting the maximum number of points.
The game is characterized by a decent visual setting, which is not inferior to many conversions to other hardware platforms (Apple II and Commodore 64). The most important feature is fast and dynamic duels (the pace can be adjusted in the menu), a large number of blows and the ability to challenge a colleague who are fighting with us to death and life on one computer.
