Mechanics
The game can be simply described as an evolution of crosswords. The game takes place on the map of the world, where interesting points have been covered with a series of hexes. Each of them corresponds to one letter and our task is to guess the words that have been arranged based on the given instructions. Sometimes, this may require us to type a word, while in other situations we get letters and then we only need to place them properly. Words are often combined into strings, creating crossword spider webs. At the same time, Word Explorer is strongly connected with travel convention and proper guessing of words is rewarded with interesting photos and anecdotes, thanks to which we can expand our knowledge about real places on Earth, whose virtual versions we visit in the game. In this way, by playing the game, we can learn interesting facts about monuments, famous places, local cultures or animals inhabiting a given area.
We don't have to guess all the words to unlock rewards for a given area. However, to enjoy the prizes, we have to guess a certain minimum number of words. If we fail to do so, the area is reset and filled with new puzzles. If you get stuck on a particular fragment, you can use the hints. We get a limited number of them per day and when the free ones are all used up, there is an option to buy additional tips via microtransactions. However, this is not required to enjoy the game, especially since the authors have prepared a system of communication with other players, which allows them to ask for help. There is also a multiplayer mode, which generates a new hex net on the world map, allowing you to compete with other people.
