Word Explorer is a verbal puzzle game developed by Tower Studios. The main designer of the title was Jon Hare, a British programmer who founded legendary Sensible Software and created such classics as Mega lo Mania and the Sensible Soccer and Cannon Fodder series.

Mechanics

The game can be simply described as an evolution of crosswords. The game takes place on the map of the world, where interesting points have been covered with a series of hexes. Each of them corresponds to one letter and our task is to guess the words that have been arranged based on the given instructions. Sometimes, this may require us to type a word, while in other situations we get letters and then we only need to place them properly. Words are often combined into strings, creating crossword spider webs. At the same time, Word Explorer is strongly connected with travel convention and proper guessing of words is rewarded with interesting photos and anecdotes, thanks to which we can expand our knowledge about real places on Earth, whose virtual versions we visit in the game. In this way, by playing the game, we can learn interesting facts about monuments, famous places, local cultures or animals inhabiting a given area.
