Wolfschanze 1944: The Final Attempt Description
Wolfshanze 1944: The Final Attempt for PC is a WWII first person shooter inspired by the famed assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler. The game was developed by from Calaris Studios, a Polish dev team known from a number of more or less acclaimed titles, including the Mortyr series or The Mysterious Island.
Plot
The player assumes the role of Claus Schenk von Stauffenberg, a historical figure known from being the bomber in the famed assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler on 20th of July, 1944. Stauffenberg became a staff officer in 1943 after his injuries taken in North Africa. The promotion has enabled him to take part in military conferences in Wolf’s Lair next to Adolf Hitler. This unexpected set of events has prompted the German conspirators to include him in the coup plans that were supposed to dispose of the leader and end the war which turned out to be a complete disaster for Germany. Unfortunately, the bomb which was planted in one of the suitcases has spared Hitler and most of his staff, while von Stauffenberg was executed the same day.
Although the story is based on real events, the game takes a completely different course, seeing us muscle our way in. We are left with a wide range of weaponry (pistols, submachine guns, sniper rifles, heavy machine guns, or even a flamethrower), and … sausages that are used to distract the approaching attack dogs. Aside from normal stages, our hero has the opportunity to use a motorbike, as well as to fight onboard a zeppelin.
Technical Aspects
The game’s visuals are powered by IC Engine, a dedicated graphical engine created by Calaris Studios. The program supports a wide range of features, including volumetric shadows, realistic water effects, basic physics, advanced AI algorithms, as well as so called “texture jam” that improves the quality of textures. Aside from a singleplayer campaign, the authors introduced a number of multiplayer modes.
