Prepared by the Japanese studio Genterprise Wizardry: The Wedge of Life tries to push the old scheme, known from the classic series of RPG games, into a new framework.
The plot of the game is based on the first three classic editions of Wizardra, which appeared on the market in the first half of the eighties of the last century. Players have the opportunity to learn a simple story that forces a six-person team of heroes to go to mysterious dungeons in order to capture certain artifacts.
Developers from Japan put the old RPG scheme into a new framework, improving the system with the data capabilities of the NDS console. Players watch the action on the bottom screen, which is used to conduct clashes, collect items and disarm traps. The upper screen was designed for information purposes, so the game displays information about the statistics of individual heroes and a map of the floors crossed. The former turn-based system has been enriched with real-time inserts that force console users to be reflective, for example with some traps.
The game was prepared in a specific style, known to all lovers of Japanese RPGs, which is confirmed by hand-drawn designs of characters and enemies, very similar to the characters from mangas or anime.
