The island of Char was not without reason called the "witch's haven". It is here, in the strongholds abandoned centuries ago, that witches found shelter, serving the filthy deities. Creating a horde of bloodthirsty monsters, they gradually increased their influence. Thanks to the use of magical practices, they quickly managed to turn the island into an inaccessible fortress, in which guests were an undesirable and immediately eliminated element. One man, named Grondoval, decided to fight evil. As you can easily guess, it is you, the dear player, who will play his role....
Witchaven is an action game using the first person perspective, built on the basis of the Build engine - the same engine that was also used to produce the popular Duke Nukem 3D shooter. Unlike other programs of this type, the authors decided to implement elements characteristic for RPG production. By killing minions, the player receives experience points that allow him/her to reach higher levels (there are seven in total). Thanks to the development of characters, we influence the strength of Grondoval's blows, his speed of movement, as well as endurance. Achieving a high level of experience is also essential if we want to use the available spells effectively. Spells are useful every step of the way and, despite their small number, they are very diverse. For example, a player can frighten and force their victims to flee, attack them at a distance with fireballs, or disintegrate with a powerful blow of magical energy. There are also spells that allow you to see in the dark and fly, both of which make gameplay much easier.
Of course, conventional weapons could not be missing either. Knife, sword, bow, crank, huge axe and finally halabard - these and other tools of annihilation will make it easier to make your way through a huge number of monsters, diversified not only in terms of appearance, but also in terms of attack power. In addition to traditional single player battles, where we travel through the underground program prepared by the authors, Witchaven also allows you to fight on the web and up to sixteen people at once.
