Will to Live Online Description
Will to Live Online is an MMO shooter developed by independent studio AlphaSoft for PC.
Plot
The game sends players to a post-apocalyptic future, tens of years after a global cataclysm that basically reset the civilization to medieval times. After an appearance of mysterious rocks which emitted unknown radiation that mutated animals, scientists decided to research the subject. they quickly discovered that particles created by those objects could be used to give humans an instant regeneration and makes for perfect fuel. This discovery resulted in a huge technological development, but it was cut short after a mysterious explosion which decimated humanity. Those who remained have to survive in a world overrun by vicious beasts, with only safe havens being ruins of few cities protected by force fields. But there are still people who venture into the wild searching for artifacts, lost technologies or any clues that could help uncover the truth behind humanity’s downfall.
Game mechanics
Will to Live Online uses first-person perspective (FPP) and starts with creating player’s character, deciding his gender, appearance and one of four specializations varying with their combat skills (which grow in number as players progress through the game) and preferred weaponry.
The gameplay revolves around the exploration of a vast world, which consists of woods and swamps, but also remains of villages and claustrophobic undergrounds, all of which can pose danger to players through an environment (for example places taken by deadly radiation), ferocious mutants and hostile humans. The last two can be dealt with using a huge arsenal of knives, machetes, pistols, shotguns and sniper or assault rifles.
While we explore, we must fulfill tasks given by NPCs or entire factions (some of which are fighting with each other), either by ourselves or in a company of other players. Meeting with other characters can be useful not only in battle but also through trading resources. This is complemented by survival features (a necessity to satiate hunger and thirst of our character) and crafting system, which can be used to create new equipment or upgrade current one. Additionally, we can modify guns with various additions (scopes, silencers and muzzle brakes) or just change their appearance.
Technical aspects
Three-dimensional visuals of Will to Live Online are decent at least The game’s atmosphere is created through the presence of fog covering wetlands and grim colors. Unsurprisingly, its style brings to mind thematically similar S.T.A.L.K.E.R series.
