The second installment of the Japanese RPG, distinguished by its specific style, which mixes elements of Wild West and Steampunk. The production does not continue the threads from its predecessor and presents completely different characters and events.

Wild Arms 2 is a jRPG telling the story of members of an organization trying to stop terrorist plans threatening the existence of the world. The game does not continue the themes from the original title published in 1996, but retains the unique style, combining elements of sci-fi, fantasy and Wild West.

Story

Planet Filgaia is slowly dying. A growing part of it is occupied by uninhabitable desert areas. Terrorist organization Odessa decides to seize the opportunity to take over the world. In order to do so, it tries to summon Lord Blazer, a powerful demon who almost destroyed Filgai a thousand years ago. The participant of these events is a young Ashley Winchester, a member of the organization's military unit. Miraculously, he manages to escape with his life from one of the experiments. Soon afterward he joins the hastily created formation, called "ARMS". Together with the former war hero Brad and sorceress Lilka, he undertakes a mission to stop the ominous group.

Mechanics

Media.Vision's game is based on solutions proven in hundreds of other jRPGs. The player's party explores the world in a variety of quests. Wild Arms 2 enables us, on the one hand, to freely explore the cities and talk to NPCs, and on the other hand, to enter dozens of random confrontations with enemies. The fights take place in a turn-based system, and the speed of action of individual battle participants depends on the value of their RES stat. For successive victories, the heroes gain experience and develop their skills and unlock new skills. Some of them open access to previously blocked places on the map. Victories also bring money, which can then be used to buy items and better equipment.

Technical aspects

Wild Arms 2 uses a combination of 2D and 3D visuals. The characters are presented in the form of two-dimensional sprites, while all game areas are designed in three dimensions, allowing the pplayers to freely rotate the camera. A unique element of the game is the style, combining elements of Wild West, steampunk and fantasy.
