Wick, available on PC, is the work of Hellbent Games. The developers have in their portfolio various titles for mobile devices and a conversion of Supreme Commander released on Xbox 360. This time, the creators provided us with a survival horror, where we play as a character whose task is to survive the night in the ghastly, haunted forest.
Plot
The story told in Wick takes place in a forest, where children have died in unexplained circumstances. Legend has it that anyone who crosses its border at night with only a candle will be able to see it. We play as a teenager who reaches the forest because of a camp game. Its rules are clear: our character must survive from midnight until dawn (to be precise, until 6:00 A.M.). The protagonist solves the puzzle of the gloomy forest, and also learns about the fate of the missing children. The plot is communicated mainly in the form of notes and various objects found along the way.
Mechanics
The action in Wick is observed from the first person perspective. The game focuses primarily on exploration - we visit not only the forest itself but also a variety of buildings. In addition, we often come across various objects, which constitute evidence in the case examined by the protagonist.
The task entrusted to the protagonist is hindered by numerous ghosts of children. Avoiding direct confrontation with each of them requires us to use various tactics. Due to the fact that the game takes place at night, it is necessary to illuminate the road with candles and matches. These can be found in random places; it is worth noting that not all of them give the same amount of light. This translates into the level of fear of the hero, and thus, into the frequency with which ghosts appear and how viciously they are willing to chase us. It is also complicated by the fact that each hour starts in a different place on the map.
Technical aspects
Wick is an independent game based on Unity engine. Thanks to this, the graphics design is at a decent level. The same applies to the sound, which not only effectively builds the atmosphere of the game but also increases the tension during certain moments.
