White Shadows

White Shadows is a narrative arcade game, in style referring to noir movies. It was created by the German independent studio Monokel, for which it is a debut.

Plot

White Shadows takes place in an absurd and dark world built on lies and obedience, which is the last city on Earth - White City. It is a place where half people and half animals live.

The game is a modern fairy tale and presents a distorted reflection of reality. The story is dark, funny and twisted. The Great War led to a plague allegedly caused by birds, which deprived almost every human being of life. No one is safe outside the White City zone and only a shiny white coat is able to protect against the plague. In the game we play the role of Ravengirl, who decides not to obey anymore and runs away, going to deeper and deeper areas of the surreal city. On his way he tries to find other revolutionists, seeks to learn the truth about the white color and the outside world and change his destiny.

Mechanics

White Shadows is a platform game, in which we overcome obstacles that require skills and timing, solve environmental puzzles and interact with elements of the environment in an extraordinary, fairy-tale world full of pigs, sheep, birds, rats, or sovereign wolves and helpless chickens.

We get to know the story during the game through the surroundings and the events we encounter while wandering through the slums created from the remains of an old circus, huge workers' districts, a park hiding depraved entertainment or a forgotten place where bandits gather around a tin tree.

Technical aspects

White Shadows offers a monochromatic graphic design. The style used by the developers refers to silent films and noir cinema. In addition, there are bright elements of lighting, which in combination with a suitably adapted game of shadows and black and white graphics create a unique look of the game.
