A combination of an RPG and a strategy game. Whispers of the Eyeless is about managing the cult of the Dead Gods. Our obligations include gaining new followers, maintaining their devotion, completing turn-based battles with enemies, expanding the sanctuary and taking full control of the grim city of Aranthor.
Whispers of the Eyeless is a game on the border of RPGs and strategies, in which we lead a cult. It was developed by the independent Polish team Evil Gingerbread Studio, employing Michal "Venris" Cieczko and the authors of mods under the SFO: Grimhammer banner.
Story
Whispers of the Eyeless transports us to a grim fantasy world. The never-ending struggle for power, ancient secrets, and numerous dangers have brought the city of Aranthor to the brink of collapse. During the game we take on the role of the First Prophet, who arrives in Aranthor to bring to life the dark Cult of Dead Gods. It depends on us whether and at what cost he will manage to bring about the emergence of the gods of Wrath, Desire, and Madness.
Gameplay
Managing a sect
Our main duty in Whispers of the Eyeless is managing the cult, which involves the need to recruit followers and get rid of enemies, as well as paying homage to individual deities.
When training cultists and assigning them tasks such as gathering resources, expanding the influence of the sect, or fighting rivals, it is important to pay attention to their unique features, which may prove useful.
We also need to take care of their level of dedication to our cause, as eradicating doubt from the minds of followers can prove to be very difficult. Maintaining this indicator at the appropriate level is facilitated by rituals, which additionally provide us with various blessings.
Turn-based combat
Our cult does not lack opponents (mainly followers of the Living Gods), so we often have to fight. The battles take place in turn-based mode, and during them we must not only use the abilities of the characters, but also make use of the powers of the Dead Gods.
It is worth remembering that conflicts, especially those in which we engage deities, "drain" our mental health. The risks involved are worth it, because victories provide us with influence and resources (on the other hand, defeat weakens our control over Aranthor).
City to conquer
The city that is the arena of our activities has been divided into districts, each of which can be a source of valuable resources and important alliances for us. We're talking about the Old Town, underground dungeons (where we can find relics and forbidden knowledge, but also dangerous traps) or the High City (inhabited by the elite of Aranthor).
Our command center, on the other hand, is the Sanctuary, which we develop as we progress according to our own whims, expanding it with such rooms as the reliquary (where relics are stored) or the hall of faith (for training students). The bigger our house is, the more blessings can flow to us, but on the other hand - the more we attract the attention of enemies.
Game modes
In addition to the standard gameplay variant, a Fate's Mirror module has been implemented in Whispers of the Eyeless, which enriches the game with mechanics from the roguelike genre. It offers scenarios and other elements generated randomly, as well as modifiers affecting the gameplay.
Graphics
The two-dimensional graphics of Whispers of the Eyeless are maintained in a style reminiscent of the Darkest Dungeon series.
