Where Birds Go to Sleep is a narrative visual novel, a genre that is called an interactive role-playing game. It was developed by independent studuio Quiet Little Feet, for whom it is a debut project.

Plot

Where Birds Go to Sleep takes place in a fictional world inspired by the Persian-Byzantine land. The story of the game is very original. The player becomes part of the unconscious mind of a criminal and plays the role of a whisper that more or less influences his decisions and actions. Together with the main character, he embarks on a mission to discover a mysterious island with many dark secrets.

During the adventure, the player tries to get to know the protagonist, his opinions, motivations, point of view on various matters, and also to influence him, which does not always have to succeed. The hero of the game is not his puppet. The player does not have full control over him, and how big it is depends on the decisions made. Every choice, even the smallest one, has its consequences both for the relationship between the whisper and the criminal mind, and for the course of the plot.

Mechanics

Where Birds Go to Sleep is a visual novel adventure game and brings to mind an interactive film. The player gets to know the complex plot, admiring the moving illustrations, conducts internal conversations in the protagonist's head, choosing specific dialogue lines, and makes various decisions which have an impact on the hero's actions and influence the events. But there is no such thing as a bad choice of dialogue that ends the game.

Technical aspects

Where Birds Go to Sleep, which was created on the Unity engine, is distinguished by unique graphics that bring to mind paintings. The atmosphere of the game is gloomy and dark, which perfectly matches the story presented. The game is fully sounded, including the voices of the characters, and the disturbing atmosphere is also highlighted by ambient music.
