A horror with logical game elements, created by Chinese studio TianShe Media. The player assumes the role of a housemaid, who decides to solve the mystery behind the mysterious disappearance of the Victorian residence’s inhabitants. The gameplay in Weeping Doll is presented from a first person perspective, and focuses on exploration, searching for story clues and keys, and finally solving various riddles which involve object manipulation.

Weeping Doll for PS4 and PC is a mix of a horror and a logic game, developed for enhanced reality sets, such as Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. The developer responsible for the title is TianShe Media – a chinese studio based in Shanghai. The team has decided to improve the VR technology. Weeping Doll is a first commercial project that will reach western audiences.

Plot

Weeping Doll for PS4 and PC allows us to unveil the secret of an abandoned Victorian-era home, and it’s missing inhabitants. The player, assuming the role of the housekeeper, has to reconstruct the whole story and timeline, connecting information from notes and objects found along the way.

Mechanics

The action in Weeping Doll is seen from a first-person-perspective. However, the players cannot travel freely around the corridors, but only teleport from place to place. The new location is selected by moving the transparent silhouette of our character using the analog stick, which teleports us automatically to the new location. The camera is controlled by head movement, while rotating is performed using gamepad buttons.

During the gameplay, we visit the following rooms and chambers of the abandoned house. Along the way, we need to solve various logical riddles and puzzles, which often are the only way to continue the game. We also look for clues on the story of the residence and its inhabitants, as well as keys opening locked doors.

Technical Aspects

Weeping Doll for PS4 and PC was created using Unreal Engine 4 technology. The developers prepared the interiors of the house with utmost attention to details. The atmosphere of dread and terror is also build through lighting and various filters and special effects.
