WCW Backstage Assault Description
A sports game based on the license of the American WCW wrestling federation, which is a continuation of WCW Mayhem. The title abandoned many solution from the original, enabling, among other things, for the duels to leave the rope-weaved rings.
Mechanics
The players have almost sixty fighters at their disposal, including such celebrities as Hulk Hogan, Bam Bam Bigelow, Booker T, Corporal Cajun, Goldberg, La Parka and Major Gunns. Additionally, the players can use the available character creation mode at any time and create their own wrestler.
In terms of combat mechanics and formula, the game is very different from the previous installment and competitive projects. The devs resigned from the typical ring clashes and instead designed a multi-segment arena. The players can not only move freely between them during the fight but also use the objects in them to execute stronger attacks. WCW Backstage Assault rewards such moves much more than the traditional tricks and throws known from wrestling galas.
The players can test their skills in single matches, but also in longer tournaments, in which subsequent wins bring them closer to winning the belt, as well as unlocking hidden characters, arenas or attacks, which can be later used in the creation of their own athlete.
Technical aspects
The devs of WCW Backstage Assault made good use of the license by reproducing its fighters in the best possible way, with characteristic moves and entrances. During the fights, the events are commented on by a duo of experts, Bobby Heenan and Tony Schiavone.
