Way to the Woods is a unique third-person-perspective action-adventure game released for {PLAT} by Team 17, a studio known for the cult-classic Worms series. The release is a product of a systematically realized policy of supporting independent authors – the game was almost singlehandedly developed by Anthony Tan, a 16-year-old Australian running the Happy Bee studios.
Plot
In the Way of the Woods we assume control of a doe accompanied by young fawn. The duo travels through a mysterious, surreal world, attempting to discover the titular way to the woods – a safe home for both of the characters.
Technical Aspects
The world of the game, created manually by Anthony Tan is powered by Unreal Engine 4. The author was inspired by the output of Ghibli, a Japanese studio responsible for movies such as Ponyo, Spirited Away, or Howl’s Moving Castle. The soundtrack was composed by Jeremy Warmsley, a London-born composer and indie musician.
