Way of Redemption for PC and PS4 is an arcade sports game with MOBA elements. It is the first project of the small Spanish studio Pixel Cream.
Plot
The game is set in a world, where for hundreds of years the gods have been organizing special tournaments. The prize is extraordinary, as it's redemption. Only the best and exquisite warriors participate in those tournaments to change their future.
Mechanics
The developers call their production a MOSA (Mobile Online Sport Arena) game. The gameplay of Way of Redemption was inspired by dodgeball. Each team has their own half of the field, with a portal at its outer end. The players throw the balls at the opponents' portal while trying to defend their own. Each player on the field has their own unique abilities, which should be used during the match in order to win. For example, Ryunosuke is a very fast defensive player, who can perform unpredictable throws, Darcey can absorb the opponent's energy, and Pryckon, while slow, is unusually strong.
Way of Redemption features only a multiplayer mode. You can play locally and online (the game supports the cross-play system, which allows PC and console owners to play together), in 1-vs-1 and 2-vs-2 matches. There are various leagues, in which you compete against others. Like many other multiplayer productions, this one allows you to customize the appearance of your characters (there are over 11,000 possible combinations), using cosmetic elements found in chests. The game also features a leveling-up system, but it does not affect the characters' abilities, instead allowing you to unlock new characters and bonus contents.
Technical aspects
Way of Redemption for PC and PS4 is an average production. The characters are not very detailed, and their animations leave much to be desired. The perspective, however, obscures some of the flaws – the games are shown from the point of view of a camera above the arena.
