A fantasy strategy game with roguelike mechanics. In Warntorn our primary job is to lead a caravan towards the Beynun fortress. We can gain new allies along the way and we must defeat various enemies in real-time combat. A morale system plays an important role, because dropping morale to zero means a premature end of our journey.

Wartorn is a fantasy strategy game enriched with roguelike elements. It was developed by Stray Kite Studios - an independent development team, consisting of creators who have in their portfolio games from the Age of Empires, Borderlands and BioShock series.

Story

Wartorn takes us to the Talaur Islands. During the game, we play as Yara and Elani. The sisters are exiled from their home, after which they set off on a journey to Beynun, their ancestral fortress. They are hoping to find refuge there.

The caravan and the morale system

In Wartorn we watch the events from a bird's eye view. As we traverse the land engulfed in conflict, we gradually expand our caravan. We are gradually joined by fantasy creatures like goblins, elves, demons, or representatives of the treefolk.

Although the presence of companions increases the chances of success for the entire expedition, it also generates additional responsibilities. We must pay attention to their morale, because the total loss of hope by the expedition participants is associated with its premature termination and the need to start the adventure from scratch.

Combat

During our journey to the Beynun fortress we often have to fight against opponents. The battles take place in real time and have a tactical edge. We deploy units and we independently compose them based on the skills, strengths and weaknesses. We can rely on warriors fighting in close combat, archers, and mages.

Additionally, in combat we must utilize the element system implemented in the game - fire, water, tar, plants, and lightning. Positioning of units on the battlefield also plays an important role. Due to the morale indicator of the caravan and its crucial importance for the success of the expedition, we must make efforts to avoid losses on the battlefield.

The protagonists meet members of their family during the expedition. They share their knowledge with them and present them with souvenirs. These last ones provide us with various benefits and abilities to use throughout subsequent games.
