Warlords

First game from the Warlords series, considered by many to be the prototype of the currently popular Heroes from 3DO. It is a turn-based strategy set in the realities of the fantasy world. The action takes place in a land called Illuria, where eight opponents, the title Lord of War, fight for total domination. The player chooses which opponents he wants to stay with and the fight begins. Depending on the choice, we start in a different part of the land, which is naturally associated with a different initial tactics of the campaign (topography of the terrain). There are eighty cities on the map. They play a primary role in the game, each of them is a defensive bastion and financial and economic background, therefore it is the number of controlled cities that proves our strength or powerlessness.

In cities we recruit various units, including dragons, wolves, cavalry, ordinary infantry, dwarves, pegasuses and many others. Although these units are the basis of the army, the greatest strength is Heroes, heroes with special skills and extraordinary power, who can also explore various ancient ruins and use the artifacts found there. Player can freely lead units on the map, but has no influence on the outcome of the fight (i.e. can not command the army in a skirmish), and its result is generated by the computer on the basis of comparison of unit coefficients, bonuses from the area on which they are located and random element. The game allows you to play up to eight people on one machine. When Warlords was released in 1990, it was a real revelation and a breakthrough, which naturally translated into a huge success of the game.
