War Wind Description
War Wind is a real-time strategy modelled on Blizzard's cult cycle of Warcraft, maintained in the realm of fantasy and taking us to the very middle of a conflict of four conflicted races. DreamForge Intertainment studio is responsible for its creation, known for Chronomaster adventures and highly acclaimed RPG games such as Ravenloft, Menzoberranzan or Anvil of Dawn.
The action takes place in the fictional world of Yavaun, where the most developed race of Tha'Roon leads. Oblinoxi, who specializes in combat, and Eaggra, the wood-like builder, remain at her service. Crushed by centuries of race, having had enough slave labor under Tha'Roon rule, they start a rebellion that leads to an open war across the land. It is then that the fourth race of mysterious mystics Shama'Li appears on the horizon, which, guided by an ancient prophecy, strives to end the conflict and unite the opposing parties.
In the game we will have the opportunity to lead to the fight all of the four available races, within the framework of a feature campaign counting 7 missions for each side. Different races use similar types of units, but due to the different characteristics of each side, commanding them will require a slightly different approach from the player. For example, Tha'Roon have powerful units that need to be taken care of due to their high production costs. Oblinox warriors are difficult to defeat, but their downside is slowness. Eaggra buildings are the strongest in the whole game, and their units are built quickly and easily, but this is reflected in their small attack power. And finally Shama'Li, whose strongest point is the powerful combat spells.
The mechanics of the game is largely based on the assumptions known from the Warcraft series, although the authors have introduced a few innovative solutions to the game. The units have special skills such as sneaking and are not produced in the traditional way, but recruited and trained to represent the professions we need. The game also allows you to promote them and move the best eight to the next mission. The most important of the units is the leader of the clan, whose death marks the end of the game, and a special bar reflects his influence on his army. A unique solution is also the introduction of a stealth system, which allows you to mask and hide our units. This allows you to use unique combat strategies, hide in buildings or steal raw materials from enemy structures. During the battle, on the following maps, apart from the soldiers of the enemy faction, we will also encounter aggressive neutral creatures.
War Wind's sprite-based graphic design resembles Blizzard's cult productions, also using similar solutions such as war fog. The gameplay is diversified by high quality film interludes, illustrating the progress of the plot. After completing the main feature campaign, we can design our own battle scripts, thanks to the editor included in the game. Of course, the possibility to compete in skirmish mode, available through the Internet or LAN, has not been forgotten.
