War Plan Orange: Dreadnoughts in the Pacific 1922-1930 Description
War Plan Orange: Dreadnoughts in the Pacific 1922-1930 for PC is a new turn-based strategy created by 2BY3 Games. So far, the studio has been popular for such titles as War in the Pacific: Struggle Against Japan 1941-1945, Gary Grigsby's World at War or Uncommon Valor: Campaign for the South Pacific. The game utilizes the same engine and gameplay patterns that were employed in War in the Pacific, thus the WEGO system was applied here (simultaneous turns) and the game features a large map, which is divided into hexes.
Mechanics
Instead of recreating historical events, War Plan Orange offers an insight into a fictitious conflict between the United States and Japan (also involves allied countries, such as Great Britain, Canada or France), which takes place in the years 1922-1930. As a result, the Pacific is the warfare theater here and the navy plays the most crucial part in combat. Because of the period the game is set in, aircraft carrier ships (those played an important role in the World War II) are of a footnote status. Encounters involving huge battleships and cruisers are at the core of the experience.
War Plan Orange: Dreadnoughts in the Pacific 1922-1930 for PC was divided into two main campaigns, the first of which encompasses the years 1922-1926, and the second – 1926-1930. Furthermore, War Plan Orange features 8 additional scenarios, which can be played either solo or in the PBEM multiplayer mode.
Despite the fact that the game was based on a concept of a fictional conflict, the game puts a great emphasis on realism – the developer recreated over 311 authentic ship classes from the era, along with 74 aircrafts, as well as an equally large number of ground units and parts of their equipment. What is more, the game brings powerful naval units into fight, but in reality, those never left the early stage of construction – for example, one will find here Tosa, Kii or South Dakota battleships with 16 inch cannons, a Tillman battleship with 18 inch cannons, or cruisers (Amagi, Lexington, G3). Equally as much work was put in creating the complex AI procedures behind simulating the behaviour of units and decisions made by their commanders.
