Vulture Island is a two-dimensional platformer released on PC, iOS and AND. The game was developed by Donut Games studio, the authors of warmly received Traps n' Gemstones.
Plot
The game tells the story of four children. Benjamin, the most clever of them, builds a flying machine and takes his friends, Alex, Paul and Stella, on a journey around the world. During the flight, a crash occurs and the heroes are forced to use parachutes. They land in the sea and barely reach the shore of the mysterious island. Alex, Paul and Stella discover that they lost Benjamin somewhere along the way.
Mechanics
Vulture Island, released on PC, iOS and AND, is a classic two-dimensional platformer. We go through large maps, avoiding threats and eliminating enemies. We also collect gold coins, which we can spend on new weapons and useful items. The latter category includes a number of plot-related objects, e.g. a ticket thanks to which we can travel to a new region.
We explore the world on a separate map showing the island from a bird's eye view. This mechanic is similar to action adventure games. Each of the heroes has different paths to choose from. We can come across shops, talk to independent characters and start new quests. We use this map to decide which platformer level we want to visit.
We can play as three characters, but this only affects which levels we have to beat in the campaign. While on the map of the island, we can freely switch between heroes - thanks to this mechanic we can see all the attractions, as well as accumulate more funds.
Technical aspects
Vulture Island offers an attractive two-dimensional graphic design, reminiscent of games from 16-bit consoles.
The controls are simple - we can go right or left, jump, and attack. They are also precise and refined, which is of key importance, as the game requires high precision.
