A sports game simulating table tennis, developed by an independent studio called Reddoll Games. The standard rules of table tennis are slightly modified within several optional game modes in VR Ping Pong.
VR Ping Pong for PS4 and PC is a sports game simulating table tennis, designed for Virtual Reality headgear owners. The game has been developed by the independent Reddoll Games specializing in games for Virtual Reality. Previously, the studio has been working on Stealth Labyrinth released in 2016 on PC, which allowed players to explore a 3D labyrinth and fight robots inside it. The game described herein works only with PlayStation VR. The game supports also PlayStation Move motion controllers.
Mechanics
In VR Ping Pong for PS4 and PC, players observe the action from the first-person perspective and control the paddle hovering in mid-air trying to hit the incoming balls. The game is based on regular table tennis rules; however, they can be modified within optional game modes. Matches take place on closed arenas surrounded by tribunes.
Game modes
VR Ping Pong for PS4 and PC does not offer any multiplayer modes, as it focuses on competing against the AI. Apart from the tutorial, single matches, and tournaments, developers have implemented into their game such modes as the so-called Wall Mode, a player has to use a wall to bounce the ball, while in Broken Table Mode, after each hit, a table is gradually destroyed. A player can also enjoy the Serve Mode (in which he can test the strength and precision of serves) and the TT Machine, which tests player’s reflexes.
Technical aspects
VR Ping Pong for PS4 and PC delivers original, yet not very attractive visuals, which have been designed based on voxel graphics.
