Voodoo Nights is a dynamic action game developed by the Czech team at Mindware Studios (the devs of Cold War: Behind The Iron Curtain). In this title, the players get to control two cops - partners named: Jack and Samuel. Their task is to take down a dangerous gang of occult followers.
The struggle takes place on the streets of a large metropolis, where the criminals are not afraid to reach for their guns and use... the power of Voodoo. We control both heroes at the same time - when, for example, leading Jack through a corridor, in a small window located at the top of the screen we can observe Samuel's actions. The players can "switch" between the cops at any time. There are also some basic commands to guide our companion: run to the selected position, cover me, etc.
As the game progresses, the cops will eventually learn how to use the "black magic" and in many cases, instead of using a gun, they will use a Voodoo doll. Using it provides access to many powers (for example: temporarily taking control of a selected opponent and turning them against other opponents, or telekinesis involving carrying and throwing objects or enemies). This feature definitely makes the gameplay more interesting. And thus, when one heroes moves the other to the roof of the next building, the other can discharge a shotgun at his opponents in flight.
The lion's share of the gameplay is, of course, the exchange of fire with the opponents' troops, although Voodoo Nights do not lack puzzle solving and situations where we need to use brains instead of bullets.
Visual aspects of the project were created in 3D, while subsequent events are observed from third-person perspective. The locations were made with attention to detail (we go to various warehouses, to a gas station, we also fight in street alleys), as were character models (especially those of Jack and Samuel). Subsequent parts of the script take place mainly at night, which further intensifies the atmosphere of the game and the whole "voodoo" vibe surrounding the game.
