Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars is an RPG card game. The project was published by Square Enix, and its creative director was Yoko Taro, known for Drakengard and NieR series.

Plot

Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars takes us on a journey to a fantasy universe. After the awakening of the title dragon, which threatens the inhabitants of the land, the hero decides to go on a long and full of dangers journey to face him (and to get the prize for killing the beast). The protagonist is not alone, as he is accompanied by a monster named Mar, who is tied to him, and Melanie, a witch who hates the winged reptile. How the team's fate will turn out depends on the decisions we make during the game.

Mechanics

Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars brings to mind tabletop RPGs and card games. The plot is told to us by the game master, played by Todd Haberkorn, and all our activities are connected to playing cards. This applies both to exploration of the world (presented in the form of a map consisting of cards waiting to be revealed) and interacting with its elements.

Things are similar with the combat system; battles take place in turn-based mode, and during them we play cards related to particular heroes and their abilities. Using special skills requires the usage of crystals generated during battles; in some cases, the effect of their action is determined by a dice roll.

Technical aspects

The audiovisual design of Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars is very impressive. Kimihiko Fujisaka supervised the characters' appearances, while Keiichi Okabe composed soundtrack.
