Too Much Gaming: 4 / 5
While Visions of Mana doesn’t do enough to propel the series to new heights, many can find comfort in knowing that what we have here is another solid JRPG that can easily reiterate why you fell in love with these types of games, and that it’s a comfort to know that in 2024, there are still new adventures that can transport you to the good old days.
PC Gamer: 77 / 100 by Timothy Monbleau
Visions of Mana weaves accessible action and RPG elements together to create a gorgeously enthralling fairy tale.
Wccftech: 7.5 / 10 by Kai Tatsumoto
Visions of Mana is a fun JRPG for the first thirty hours but the continuous backtracking and overall padding left me feeling like my time wasn't being respected by the time Val's journey came to a close
Visions of Mana Description
Visions of Mana is the first new installment in an iconic jRPG series by Square Enix (Final Fantasy) in 15 years. The game was preceded by remakes of the previous installments, created by the publisher's subsidiaries, Xeen and Q Studios. It was supervised by Masaru Oyamada, just like the remakes.
Plot
Like the previous games in the series, Visions of Mana is set in a fantasy world, its most important landmark being the mighty Mana Tree. Every four years, an adventurer is chosen to go on a pilgrimage to the Tree. The latest pilgrim is a friend of the game's protagonist, Val. Becoming her guardian, they both set off on a long journey.
Mechanics
Like the previous installment, Visions of Mana makes use of the third-person perspective rather than top-down camera. Once again, it's an action RPG in which we control a group of heroes, using various weapons and magic. Combat is real-time, pitting us against numerous enemies and powerful bosses.
