Multiplayer shooter in MOBA convention. It is the first title of the independent developer Nuke Cockroach studio and is distributed in free-to-play model with microtransactions. Veterans uses isometric view and focuses on online PvP battles of teams or individual players. We take control of the titular veterans and fight on 30 different battlefields using a vast array of weaponry, various combat vehicles and useful gadgets.

Veterans is an old-school isometric shooter in MOBA convention that focuses on multiplayer mode. It is a debut of Tunisian studio Nuked Cockroach and has been released on PC in free-to-play business model with optional microtransactions that, however, don’t give and edge over other players.

Game mechanics

Veterans for PC offers no story at all, concentrating on PvP skirmishes in one of a few modes for individual or team competition. It combines classic shooters like Commando, Ikari Warriors and Cannon Fodder series with RPG (character development system) and MOBA titles’ features.

We play as the titular veterans and fight on 30 different battlefields using a rather vast arsenal of weapons, combat vehicles and useful gadgets. Games are dynamic, but they also require some tactical thinking. This is complemented by character development system, typical for online games. We can modify various statistics of our hero and his equipment as we progress through the game. We also unlock a vast array of special skills that let us customize our play style.

Game modes

Veterans for PC focuses on multiplayer, including a few PvP modes available, in which players compete in teams or individually. The first one is much more interesting, as it requires not only tactical sense and manual skills, but also working together. To offer balanced experience, the game features matchmaking system that assorts players and teams according to their rank. This prevents e.g. group of novices facing long time veterans.

Technical aspects

Veterans uses very colorful, cartoonish visuals that visibly resembles Cannon Fodder series. Its world is observed from isometric view and players are accompanied by dynamic rock soundtrack.
