Valkyrie Drive: Bhikkhuni Description
Valkyrie Drive: Bhikkhuni is an arcade action game featuring teenage warriors with unique abilities and powers. Developers of the title are Marvelous and the Japanese studio Tamsoft, which conducted work under the supervision of Kenichiro Takaki. The dev is responsible for the creation of the Senran Kagura series, whose spiritual successor is Valkyrie Drive: Bhikkhuni, as well as such games as IA/VT Colorful or Uppers.
Story
Main characters of Valkyrie Drive: Bhikkhuni are Rinka and Renka Kagurazaka, victims of the mysterious V virus, thanks to which they gained supernatural abilities. Thanks to their training, each of them can turn into a unique and extremely powerful weapon. The protagonists live on a desolate island and, together with their like-minded colleagues, carry out the task of dealing with the damage caused by the virus.
Story cut-scenes adopt the visual novel convention. The single player campaign features different endings, which depend on the results achieved in each mission.
Mechanics
Gameplay in Valkyrie Drive: Bhikkhuni closely resembles that of the Senran Kagura series, being an action arcade game reminiscent of classic Japanese TPP hack'and slash productions, such as Devil May Cry. During the mission we fight with large groups of mooks, huge bosses, and other enemies with special powers caused by the V virus. Controlling our chosen warrior (the creators gave us seven playable characters), we can dodge enemy attacks, counterattack, jump and run across the battle zone. The combat system also offers various types of combos, unlocked after gaining the appropriate number of experience points. On the battlefield we are accompanied by a partner who can turn into a weapon, which we use to perform special attacks.
Game modes
In addition to the story campaign, players will also find a training and survival mode, in which we fight waves of enemies and bosses. The creators have also prepared several types of multiplayer games, designed for up to four people.
Technical aspects
Valkyrie Drive: Bhikkhuni uses the same graphic engine as Senran Kagura, whose strengths are detailed and well-animated character models. However, individual locations and elements of the environment leave something to be desired. The game is accompanied by an energetic soundtrack.
