Urban Trial Playground is a mix of a racing and a platform game in which the player controls a trial motorbike. The game is characteristic for its focus on tempo, requiring good motor skills and nimble fingers. Performing stylish tricks and maneuvers is one of the mainstays of the game. The game offers 3D visuals, but the gameplay itself plays out more in the vein of 2D games. The game was developed by Tate Multimedia.
Mechanics
Urban Trial Playground differs from the ordinary racing game. Instead of an unconstrained control over the bike, we follow a predetermined course, mainly focusing on speed and various stunts (somersaults, wheelies, etc.) that can be mixed together, creating various combinations. The tricks are rewarded with points which are counted up at the end of the run. The gameplay has certain elements which are more in the vein of platform games. The game offers over fifty varied levels and a choice of motorbikes that can be customized by replacing their base parts (engine, brakes, etc.) Online rankings enable the players to compare their scores.
Game Modes
Urban Trial Playground offers both single and multiplayer modes (including local area multiplayer, as well as split-screen modes). The players can choose from a few types of races, such as Freestyle (racing without time counters and limitations), Time Trial (races against the time counter), Ghost Mode (enables the player to chase himself in fight to improve his records), and Tag (a trick contest against the opposing player).
Technical Aspects
Urban Trial Playground is powered by Unreal Engine 4. The visuals are three-dimensional and of decent quality – the maps inspired by the landscape of California are full of detail. Rider models are detailed and well-animated.
