In 1997 Cyclone studio prepared a very original game for its time, combining elements of shooting and RTS with first-person (FPP) or third-person (TPP) view options. Positive feedback from players at Uprising: Join or Die prompted the developer to start working on the continuation. As a result, a year later two games were created: a production addressed to the PlayStation platform entitled Uprising-X and a direct PC sequel Uprising 2: Lead and Destroy.
In the continuation, players once again have the opportunity to sit at the helm of Wraith, a combat vehicle straight from the science-fiction novel. The action of the game is set just after the events presented in the "one". The victory over the forces of the Emperor brought only temporary peace. Humanity is threatened by aliens from space - a race of aliens called Kri'Sara. Only a talented commander, able to take advantage of the new possibilities of the improved Wraith, can be dangerous.
The single player campaign consists of three parts and includes a total of 28 missions. In addition, the game features 8 scripts that are not related to the plot. The game is based on a rather simple scheme. By firing from Wraith (using several types of weapons and ammunition) you must destroy the enemy units, take control of the enemy citadel, set up a base, then start building support troops and then move on again to attack until you take full control of the board.
Compared to the original, the game is no longer so innovative, but it contains a number of improvements. First of all, the control has been simplified and a targeting aid system has been introduced. Some tasks can also be performed by artificial computer intelligence.
Uprising 2: Lead and Destroy uses 3Dfx Glide technology, which provides software support for 3D graphics. The applied solution has slightly improved the quality of the graphic design, but in practice it does not allow to use the capabilities of graphics accelerators.
In addition to the solo mode, the game developers took care of the multiplayer option for 8 players connected via LAN or 2 via serial cable. An additional advantage of Uprising 2: Lead and Destroy is a functional editor that allows you to create your own maps and scenarios.
