A third-person brawler, in which we fight against hosts of adversaries, gaining more and more popularity among the cheering girls. In Uppers, we take control of two of the thirteen warriors and lead them to victory in seven chapters of the storyline.
Uppers is a beat'em up developed by the Honey Parade Games studio. The title was published by the Marvelous company, and its producer is Kenichiro Takaki known from the Senran Kagura series.
Story
Uppers takes players to a bandit-controlled island named Last Resort. The main characters in this production are Ranma and Michiru, two daredevils who came to the island to crack down on criminals and prove their strength. Their quest is made more difficult by the fact that ten other warriors reach the island for the very same purpose; there is also a thirteenth warrior, Daidoji-Senpai, from the Senran Kagura cycle that was mentioned above.
Mechanics
Before starting the game in Uppers we choose two heroes, who we will lead to victory in seven increasingly difficult stages. While observing the action from the third person perspective (TPP), we travel through different locations and face countless adversaries. Each character has an individual fighting style (there is a choice of karate, kickboxing or even wrestling), and the key to success is not only avoiding the attacks of our opponents and then following with fast counterattacks but also combining blows into spectacular combinations. Additionally, the fights are further diversified by the possibility of using elements of the environment - heroes can throw their opponents themselves, as well as throw cars or motorcycles at them. As they progress, our protagonists become more and more popular with the ladies, who can give them access to power-ups. In addition, our characters can also take on special challenges, in return for which they win various prizes.
Technical issues
Uppers made its debut on the PlayStation Vita, and two years later a remastered version was developed for PCs and PlayStation 4, operating at 1080p and 60 frames per second.
