Unreal Tournament 2004 Description
The third installment of the brutal virtual sport series started in 1999 by Epic Games Inc. and Digital Extremes. Unreal Tournament 2004 for PC contains everything that was present in Unreal Tournament 2003, all additions, expansions and patches released after the debut of the previous game and many new features.
Mechanics
In addition to better graphics (improved engine of Unreal Tournament 2003), sounds and user interface, this installment introduces two new game modes: Assault Mode (which was available in the first Tournament but was excluded from Unreal Tournament 2003) and Onslaught Mode (based on mode available in Battlefield 1942) in which the battles are fought on giant maps by using various new weapons and vehicles – both on land and in the air. Nine maps for Onslaught Mode and six for Assault Mode were prepared by the developers.
Nine vehicles are implemented in Unreal Tournament 2004 for PC, including: Manta, Scorpion, Hellbender, Goliath, Raptor and Phoenix. The list of available weapons was extended with AVRIL, Magnetic Grenade Launcher, Spider Mine Layer. In addition to maps created for the new game modes, the title introduces 20 maps never seen before, for the modes from previous installments, such as Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Domination and Bombing Run.
Technical aspects
A special system used for communication between the players (Live voice chat with 3D sound) is introduced in Unreal Tournament 2004 for PC. The game also adds a voting system thanks to which the players can select the maps on which they want to fight, game modes, rules etc. There is also a clan voting system available. The possibility to observe the matches (UnrealTV) by hundreds of spectators with a minimum load of the game server is an interesting innovation.
