Unpacking is an simple game that escapes genre classification. It was developed by Witch Beam, an independent studio, and was published by Humble Games.
Plot
In Unpacking we take part in eight moves of the mysterious heroine. Admittedly, we don't have the opportunity to meet the protagonist directly, but thanks to the items she takes with her, with time we learn more and more about her.
Mechanics
In Unpacking we observe the action from isometric view. During the game our task is to pull various items from cardboard boxes and arrange them as we like. By placing books on shelves, hiding cutlery in drawers, and decorating selected pieces of equipment with various accessories (for example, by attaching magnets to refrigerators), we discover various nooks and crannies of the interior. By looking at the items that go with the heroine to successive homes, we can learn more about her and guess what kind of experiences she brings with her.
The game has a calming character, so there is no point system, time limits or any other elements exerting pressure on us. When everything is ready, we can take a picture of the apartment and add various decorations to it.
Technical aspects
Unpacking features colorful graphics made in the pixel art technique, and a chiptune soundtrack.
