Unholy

Unholy is a first-person horror game with stealth elements, set in a lonely metropolis on a desolate planet. It's the debut project of the Warsaw-based studio Duality. Its artistic director, Tomasz Strzalkowski, has worked on such games as Painkiller, Bulletstorm, Gears of War, Godfire and Inner Chains. He's also known for his surreal graphics and paintings, which directly inspired the game's world.

Plot

Unholy is set on a deserted planet; the remnants of its population shelter themselves from death inside a vast city. The metropolis is divided and managed by various classes. The lowest-class citizens live in constant fear of the higher classes, beasts roaming the streets and a mysterious plague killing people by the dozens. The playable character is Saidah, a woman searching for her abducted child and a way to safely escape the city.

Mechanics

Unholy is a first-person cross between a horror game and a stealth game. Each encountered obstacle can be overcome in several ways - for example, guards can be snuck past or quietly murdered. Saidah can impersonate members of different classes, using the city's division to her advantage, reaching inaccessible places.

Technical aspects

Unholy runs on the Unreal Engine 4. The developers have done their best to transfer Strzalkowski's projects into 3D. The game's soundtrack and sound effects add to its atmosphere.
