Underrail: Expedition

Underrail: Expedition for PC is the first paid expansion for Underrail, a cRPG game released in 2015. The said expansion, as well as the base game had been developed by Stygian Software.

Mechanics

Underrail: Expedition takes us beyond the metro lines known from the first entry, offering a vast underwater basin, known among its inhabitants as Black Sea. The area contains over a hundred locations, explored on foot, as well as using a boat. The journey takes us through mysterious ruins, containing clues as to origins of the game world, pirate strongholds, laboratories, or even islands of various sizes. The expansion contains additional factions, and expands the game world with new opponents. Additionally, players are able to use new abilities, adapt new traits, and equip new items, thanks to abolishment of previous level cap, which was set to 25 in the original Underrail.

Gameplay itself isn’t very different from what we could experience in the base game. World has an open structure, while the main elements, such as exploration, leveling, acquiring new abilities and equipment, or completing various main and side quests remain unchanged. The game continues to employ turn-based encounters, which often require adequate tactics in order for the player to emerge victorious.

Technical Aspects

Underrail: Expedition for PC employs the same technology as the base game. However, the add-on is not standalone, and owning original Underrail is one of the requirements.
