Release Date: March 27, 2025
Action, fantasy, platformers, RPG elements, metroidvania, top-down, indie games, 2.5D, singleplayer
A 2.5D metroidvania with additional platforming and RPG mechanics. Twilight Monk is primarily about exploring dungeons full of traps, terrain obstacles and enemies. We view the world either from the bird's eye view or from the side. We can also explore the surface and go back to previous locations to access new areas.
Twilight Monk is a metroidvania, realized in the form of a platform action game and enriched with RPG elements. This is the debut project of the Californian company Aquatic Moon, which previously created concept graphics for the projects of other developers and publishers.
Gameplay
In Twilight Monk the gameplay has been divided into two segments.
Exploring dungeons, combat and other challenges
The first segment of the game is the exploration of dungeons, which was implemented in the form of a side-view platformer. Exploring the underground involves jumping on platforms, avoiding traps and bypassing terrain obstacles, as well as eliminating enemies with whom we engage in dynamic battles. The icing on the cake is solving puzzles.
Phantom Pillar is installed on the forearm of our character. This is an ancient artifact useful both on the battlefield and during exploration. With its help, we can attack and block, as well as interact with objects.
Access to some locations requires prior unlocking of a specific skill. For this reason, it is worth returning to places already visited to collect missed treasures, discover secret passages, and solve additional puzzles.
Exploring the world on the surface
The second segment of the gameplay involves traveling on the surface, shown from a bird's eye view. It is not just a way to travel between dungeons. Separate secrets await on the surface and we can also encounter monsters. Confrontations take place on a special arena and the perspective changes to a side view.
Story
Twilight Monk takes us to a fantasy land called Speria. After it was overtaken by darkness, from which terrifying monsters emerged, the few survivors began to seek refuge in the monastery on Crescent Isle.
Raziel Tenza is a descendant of the titular Twilight Monk and he decides to restore order in Speria before things completely get out of control. To accomplish this, he will have to stop the traitor known as Nox and ensure that the world around him ceases to be consumed by internal conflicts.
Graphics
The hand-drawn graphics of Twilight Monk were made in 2.5D technique.
