Trailblazers is an unusual racing game. The title was developed by British studio Supergonk. Although it is the first game developed by this studio, among its developers there are veterans from Codemasters, Bizarre Creations, and Lionhead. The title was published by Rising Star Games.
Mechanics
The game features an interesting combination of elements from titles like WipEout, Mario Kart, and Splatoon. The players assume the role of drivers of futuristic vehicles and they race on wacky tracks as part of 3 versus 3 matches. While riding, the vehicles leave a trail in the color of the team. If a vehicle rides on a painted part of the track, it starts accelerating. Because of that, using trail left by members of the team and driving over paint left by competition is very important for winning. However, the players must save the paint, as its supplies aren’t unlimited. This adds a strategic layer to the races and it forces players to quickly adapt to a situation that’s constantly changing.
Trailblazers features a variety of vehicles. Each of them features different look and parameters – some are faster than others or easier in handling. The players can also choose drivers among which there are aliens and robots.
Game modes
Although Trailblazers is focused mostly on co-op mode, it can be played alone in story campaign filled with various challenges. Multiplayer mode can be played through Internet. The player can join online match alone (and be matched with random allies) or with friends from the same coach – a local split-screen is available as well.
Technical aspects
The game features high quality, three-dimensional cartoonish graphics. The races are accompanied by electronic music composed by indie artists.
