Total War: Warhammer - Realm of The Wood Elves Description
Realm of The Wood Elves is an expanded add-on for Total War: Warhammer, mainly focused around introducing a new race, the titular Wood Elves. The add-on was created by the creators of the base game – Creative Assembly, belonging to Sega, which is the distributor of the game.
Plot
Realm of The Wood Elves offers a special minicampaign, which pits the Wood Elves (controlled by the player) doing everything in their power to defend Athel Loren, first against Bretorians, and then against an army of beasts led by Morghura.
Mechanics
The new race is led by two legendary leaders – Orion and Durthu. The former is an immortal half-god and the king of Wood Elves, with serious melee and ranged skill. Additionally, he has two area of effect spells – Hounds of Orion (a magical whirlwind) and Hawk’s Talon (magical bombardment). Durthu is one of the oldest treefolk, a powerful warrior and mage, able to summon Manticores. Aside from them, realm of The Wood Elves is guarded by Glade Lords and Ancient Treemen, and three new types of heroes – Spellsingers (use magic during combat), Branchwraiths (armed with magic and melee weapons), and Waystalkers (ranged fighters). Additionally, the Wood Elves can field a normal army, consisting of archers, cavalry, infantry, and other, weaker units.
Wood Elves also have a unique technological and building tree, while Oak of Ages is their main base. Access to some buildings is only granted if some other buildings have been constructed, while more advanced structures can only be constructed in Athel Loren, as conquered provinces have limited development options.
The list of novelties is concluded with “Amber” – a new currency that is required for the recruitment of elite units, improving chosen technologies, and to grow Oak of Ages. The resource is gained through taking over villages and creating vantage points.
