Total War: Rome II - Rise of the Republic Description
Total War: Rome II – Rise of the Republic is the title of the fifth huge expansion for 2013’s entry in Total War series – a bestselling strategy franchise developed by creators from Creative Assembly. This time they take us to the 4th century BC when a newly born Roman Republic started its rapid rise to power.
Story
Total War: Rome II – Rise of the Republic is set before the events of the base game. Add-on takes us to year 399 BC when Marcus Furius Camillus tried to come to seize the power as dictator. At the same time, the quick expansion of Rome drew hostility not only of Archytas ruling over Taras city but also of Dionysius of Syracuse, who was at war with Cartagena and dreamed of conquering lands beyond the Mediterranean Sea. To make matters worse, a Celtic tribe of Senones came from the East led by Brennus.
Game mechanics
The expansion lets us take control of Rome, Tarchuna (a small Etruscan city), Gallic Senones and Insubres, Taras, Syracuse, Veneti, and Sardinian Iolei. The vast campaign of Total War: Rome II – Rise of the Republic takes place on the map containing Apennine Peninsula and neighboring countries like Sicilia, Corsica, and Cartagena. New mechanics focus on more government actions, which replace government system changes from previous add-ons. Thanks to that, factions can be different each time players start the campaign, and they can receive unique bonuses (e.g. Insubres and Senones can use druid councils to get divinations and public support).
Technical aspects
Rise of the Republic is a non-standalone expansion, so the base version of Total War: Rome II is required to play. The add-on makes use of features introduced with The Ancestral Update, including a family tree, intrigues, and new visuals options.
