TorqueL is an original 2D platformer in which players control a character enclosed in a small square box. A group of independent Japanese developers from FullPowerSideAttack.com studio, who worked on projects for PC and their local market, are responsible for creating the title. One of the authors' inspirations was the independent hit Thomas Was Alone. Playism, a company specializing in the distribution of Japanese indie productions, is responsible for the localization of the game.
Mechanics
At first glance, TorqueL may seem to be one of many 2D retro platformers. However, the developers decided on something unique. They locked the main character - a little gentleman in a hat - in a square box/cage. This shelter seems to be completely immobile, but players can extend all four walls of the shelter to the outside as they wish. Using the forces of gravity and the environment, we can start rolling through levels and obstacles, extending "legs" from the box. The controls are limited to six buttons, four are responsible for each cage wall and the other two are responsible for the direction of its movement (right or left). The creators have prepared a total of 50 levels, which will require not only dexterity but also logical thinking and planning.
Technical aspects
The graphics in TorqueL are extremely minimalistic and refer to classic 8-bit titles. The graphics use a limited palette of colors and simple shapes that emphasize the individual elements of the construction of levels, such as traps.
